Why Your Coworkers Aren’t Clicking

Effective communication isn’t just about talking, it’s about being heard, understood, and respected. In high stressed workplaces, poor communication is costly. The DISC assessment is a powerful tool used to improve internal communication, and shape better hiring decisions which leads to stronger retention and productivity. When coworkers aren’t aware of each other’s DISC styles emails can be misinterpreted, or feedback can feel offensive instead of corrective. Miscommunication shrink and trust grows.

DISC looks at the way the individual looks at problems, people, the pace of the day, and procedures set by others.

D – Decisive to the problem: Direct, results-driven.

I – Inspiring to people: Sociable, persuasive

S – Steady to the pace of the day: Patient, methodical

C – Compliant to procedures: Analytical, quality-focused

Everyone’s unique blend of these styles, however one or two tend to be dominant in each person.  Misunderstandings and tension often come from differing styles. A high-D employee may come off as aggressive to a high-S coworker, while a high-C might find a high-I team member too scattered or impulsive.

Hiring based on a résumé alone doesn’t show how someone will function on the team. DISC assessments into the hiring process allow you to

  1. Avoid “personality stacking” where everyone has the same approach, leading to groupthink or conflict.
  2. Understand how a candidate will interact with managers or clients before issues arise.
  3. Match roles to natural strengths – A high-C may thrive in quality control, while a high-I may be a better fit for sales or engagement.

When people feel understood and placed in roles aligned with their behavioral style, they perform better, stay longer, and contribute more. It’s not just about getting work done, it’s about getting the right people doing the right work, together.
